Because we left the hospital after 24 hours, our pediatrician wanted to see Gillen in the office two days later just to check on him. Everything checked out beautifully - his length was still 21 inches and he weighed 8 lbs 3 oz. No bilirubin concerns at all.
Yep. Our boy was back to birth weight within 72 hours! YAY MAMA MILK!!
Our pediatrician said she usually likes to see newborns back in 2 weeks for a weight check but because he was already back to birth weight, she'll see us at his 1 month visit.
The rest of the appointment was spent talking about how Owen is adjusting to the new baby. He's been very emotional and acting out. His eating and sleeping are a little wonky and you can tell there is a lot going on in his little mind. She said it takes about six weeks for toddlers to get over the newness of it all and after that point they usually don't harbor memories of how it used to be.
Let's hope she's right....
I am sure Owen will adjust beautifully to his baby brother. Gillen is a precious baby! So glad he is doing well and is eating well!
ReplyDeleteoh tam, i so feel for you in regards to owen. as you know, we are STILL dealing with the same issues with connor. they began about a week before hailey arrived, and were absolutely terrible for a good 6 or 7 weeks after her birth. his sleep has started to improve over the past week or so, but we still have some rough nights and he continues to act out quite a bit, though never takes out his aggression on his sister - he truly loves her but just has a lot going on in his head, like you said. kevin and i have really had to pull from our patience reserves, and give him lots of extra TLC as best we can while still giving hailey what she needs. it is quite a balancing act, but i have to hope it will get better and better. thinking of you as you sort through the same with owen. hang in there! xoxo

ReplyDeleteThe sleep thing could be a bad combo of age/development AND baby brother. johnny had some bumpy moments too, but like megan said, NEVER took it out on joey, which i am so grateful for.
we tried hard to do "special time" with him if not every day then frequently (and we still do, but not as much) so he could have some one on one with at least one of us. hugs all around, Tam, he'll get better soon!
