{The Mama}

Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother
- Lin Yutang

I'm a 30-something-year-old, red-headed, public health enthusiast with aspirations of one day becoming the Surgeon General. I am currently relishing in my new job as a SAHM while my husband works insane hours as a surgical resident. I like to make fun of the things people do and say and I really like to love on my husband. I'm a compulsive planner, feminist, cycling instructor, and an Elizabethan history fanatic. I hate cheese on my salad and running into people from high school. I like to think my thoughtfulness and creativity outshine my neurotic tendencies. AND if I could have only one super power it would be to speed read (Please don't ask me why it's not to fly, be invisible or have a prehensile tail. My husband asks me every day.)

As of February 24, 2010, I'm a first time Mama to a first time baby boy called Owen. He was born after ten weeks of bed rest and mountains of prayer.

On August 27, 2012 we welcomed our second little boy, Gillen Azar. This baby was born after a full term healthy pregnancy and birthed naturally in three hours. It was truly amazing.

This blog started out as a way for me to document my feelings about being pregnant for the first time after trying for the better part of a year for a baby. When I went into preterm labor at 27 weeks it turned into a place for updates at a time when saying words aloud just hurt too much. Now, well, its a little bit of everything. I relish, I complain and I take pictures of my boys - but above all - I am thankful.

Just by having this blog I've allowed myself to be judged as person and as a mother. I've also allowed people to truly know me and share the joys, triumphs and heartaches of becoming a family. Its because of the later that I continue.

Join me, leave a comment - but be kind. I wake up in the morning with a desire to do my best and go to bed each night with a promise to do better tomorrow.
