Baby Update

Hello friends and family. I blog once again to update you on the situation. As you may have read/heard, at Tamara's last OB visit she was diagnosed with cervix insufficiency, or short cervix. This essentially means that the plug holding the baby in is shrinking. Today was supposed to be the day that our doctor was going to put a stitch in the cervix to help hold it closed and hopefully prevent preterm labor. Unfortunately, right before her procedure our doctor checked her cervix again and found that it had continued to shorten, soften and was now slightly dilated (less than 1cm). The procedure was cancelled and she was admitted to the perinatal intensive care unit (PICU) for constant monitoring and to begin medication to stop the progression of preterm labor (a process referred to as tocolysis in the industry).

So we are now hanging out in a very nice large room at Miami Valley Hospital waiting for periodic checks to see if the cervical changes have been halted by the medication. At this point, you may be wondering this may mean. If you are, you are in the same boat as the rest of us. This could mean that the medication works and Tamara can carry our baby to term on bedrest for the next 3 months. On the flip side, the baby could be delivered in the next couple days - we are, of course, praying this does not happen.

In the meanwhile, we are trying to remain hopeful, which at times is difficult, to say the least. I encourage you to send your best wishes, if you so desire.
